What Is Saffron?
Saffron consists of the dried stigmas of Crocus sativus L., a plant in the Iridaceae family. Each flower has three stigmas, which are carefully harvested by hand.
Colour, Taste and Culinary Uses
Saffron adds a golden-yellow colour, a distinctive aroma and a slightly bitter taste. Use a small amount suited to your recipe in rice dishes, paella, risotto, sauces, fish or vegetable dishes, pastries, milk puddings and drinks.
A Thoughtful Small Gift
The compact gift box suits food lovers, tasting gifts, corporate presents and occasions such as birthdays, weddings and seasonal celebrations. The metal tin helps protect the threads during storage.
People Behind the Saffron
Saffrona works directly with family farms in Herat. Women play an important role in harvesting, sorting and processing saffron. Traceable origins and documented batch information are central to our approach.
How to Prepare the Threads
- Take only the amount needed for your recipe and gently crush the threads.
- Infuse in a little warm, non-boiling water, milk or stock for about 10–20 minutes.
- Add the infusion and threads to your dish at the appropriate stage of cooking.
The number of servings depends on the recipe and the amount used.
